Yoga Therapy: A Journey of Persistence, Health, and Believing in Yourself

Twelve years ago, I left the UK after receiving an unexpected distinction and award for my master’s degree in HR Management and Business. In that moment, I made a promise to myself: I would live my best life, no matter the challenges ahead.

The award itself is meaningful, but the story behind it is what truly matters. The years leading up to that moment were filled with health struggles, personal challenges, and self-doubt. Yet, despite the advice to give up, I chose persistence. I didn’t give up on my dreams.

This journey has shaped my path in ways I didn’t anticipate. Today, I continue to grow professionally, but I’m also fulfilling a long-held dream of becoming a yoga therapist. As I near the end of my training, the lessons I’ve learned have enriched both my life and my work.

Honouring the Process: Health, Healing, and Persistence

Throughout this journey, I’ve come to understand the importance of honouring my body and the process itself. There were times when my health and energy were low, and continuing felt impossible. But step by step, I kept going. Yoga therapy taught me to listen to my body, balance rest with movement, and honour my pace. It’s a practice of patience and finding ease in the midst of challenges.

This principle of persistence also extends to my work with clients. Yoga therapy is not just about flexibility or strength; it’s about health, well-being, and supporting the body and mind in the process of healing. Whether it’s managing symptoms of pain, stress, or fatigue, or simply improving overall well-being, yoga therapy offers gentle yet powerful tools to help you navigate life’s challenges.

The focus isn’t on perfection. It’s about making small, consistent changes. Through tailored practices (gentle movement, breathwork, and mindfulness), clients can shift from struggling to thriving, one day at a time. This has been my experience, and I share it with every client: persistence brings ease.

As I continue to evolve in my practice, the journey has taught me that taking care of your body and mind isn’t a luxury, it’s essential to following your goals. The health benefits I’ve gained through yoga therapy have allowed me to live more fully, with energy and intention.

Believing in Yourself: Trusting the Journey

In my own life, I’ve experienced the powerful impact of persistence, not just in managing health, but in believing in my dreams. There were moments when the future seemed uncertain, but I trusted the process and stayed committed to my goals. The key is never giving up on yourself.

To my clients: whether you’re in the midst of managing health symptoms, facing challenges, or pursuing a goal, remember that every step is important. The journey isn’t always linear. There will be obstacles. There will be setbacks. But every step, whether forward or backward, is a valuable part of the journey. I encourage clients to practice persistence in their own lives, whether through gentle movement, mindful breathing, or simply being kind to themselves. Just as I applied what I was learning to my own body during my yoga therapy training, I encourage those I work with to do the same; to listen to their bodies, adjust as needed, and keep moving forward with intention.

Just as I’ve learned to trust the healing process, I encourage you to do the same. Your dreams, health, and journey matter. Even when the road is tough, remember: persistence leads to ease.

I’m grateful for where I am today and excited for what lies ahead. My practice continues to evolve, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to guide others along their paths. Whether in health, personal growth, or pursuing dreams, it’s about finding balance, trusting yourself, and continuing to move forward.
