Rest, Breathe and Recover

A real client’s story of quiet, powerful healing

One of my clients, a strong, dedicated woman I deeply admire for everything she’s endured but keeps showing up for herself, recently shared details of a nasty fall.

It was an event she neither expected nor planned for, of course. But life happens. And here we are again…

Our journey is unique to each of us, but amidst our difficulties, we all share the same quiet longing:
To be better.

To move better.

To feel better.

Disappointment ensued.
Past traumas make it difficult to accept help.
But this woman, different from the one I knew when she first came to me, is learning:
That rest is healing.
That a pause isn’t failure, but success.

Her resilience shines through, even in recovery. She’s choosing stillness over striving (she doesn’t stop doing and giving around the house and her family). She’s accepting support instead of pushing through. And she’s honouring her body where it’s at, while staying open to her little pockets of joy.

And her commitment to healing? That’s another story.
While I invited rest or working online, she said:

“We have a session this week. I’ll probably have my daughter or husband bring me… but I won’t miss it for anything 😊 I always look forward to your yoga therapy sessions.”

And yes, rest is needed. But I also know the power of breathwork, and of gentle restorative practices to ease pain. So, while the invitation was there, and remains, if moving with the breath in the gentlest of ways, and restorative practices is what’s needed, then so be it.

This is why I love what I do.
Because we adapt.
We meet people where they are to help our clients feel better.
We help them honour their bodies against their usual striving patterns, we teach them pacing, and most of all, we remind of their strengths. We are not our diagnoses, nor what happened to us.

TO ANYONE NEEDING REST RIGHT NOW: GIVE YOURSELF FULL PERMISSION. YOU’RE NOT FALLING BEHIND. YOU’RE HEALING.
